ABSTRACT

The incidence of supplement use appears to vary according to (1) sport (runners, cyclists, and weight lifters use supplements more than gymnasts, wrestlers, and basketball players), (2) gender (females tend to use supplements more than males), and (3) level of competition (elite athletes use supplements more than high school or college athletes).28 Thus, it is important for exercise professionals, physical educators, and coaches to know the potential benefits and hazards associated with the use of ergogenic aids.
