ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses Resources, which is the sixth pillar of the CHILDREN model of factors which influence progress towards the International Safeguards. It suggests that implementation of the International Safeguards needs to be supported by appropriate resources. Building and resourcing the International Safeguards was found to be a significant factor in shaping the nature, and crucially, the quality of safeguarding within an organisation. Key issues are considered in terms of financial, human and physical resources. Promising practices are outlined in terms of both the development and dissemination of effective resources. The case study in this chapter describes the Implementation Guides which were also developed through this project. This resource helps organisations on their safeguarding journey, from the initial discussions around safeguarding through to a fully embedded safeguarding system. It includes explanations of what each Safeguard means, questions to prompt people to consider safeguarding in their context as well as examples from organisations that have already started putting the International Safeguards into practice.
