ABSTRACT

Relationship remains the single most effective aspect of any therapy. Universally acclaimed therapists master the use of self in creating caring containers for healing. Characteristics of these masters include left/right hemispheric integration, highest stages of competence, essential qualities of being taking precedence over technique, and the prioritization of their clients to feel safe and cared for. Eastern understanding of mastery is presented through the Tao Te Ching, and the concept of clinical love in the therapy hour is introduced. Therapists are encouraged to look at how status and power in trauma treatment can adversely affect treatment by compromising authentic attachment.
