ABSTRACT

Masterful therapists seamlessly integrate both intelligence and wisdom into their work of healing traumatized people. Western psychological education tends to ignore and compartmentalize wisdom as philosophy in favor of knowledge and cognitive abilities. The yogic philosophy of the koshas hails from a wisdom culture that observes cognitive function as integrated with the wisdom functions of the intellect. The union of wisdom and intelligence births certain universally observed qualities in advanced therapists that help them to transcend the capacity of ordinary therapists. These qualities are explored and include intuition, a sense of humor, curiosity, awareness, humility, creativity, receptivity, hopefulness, and joyfulness.
