ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces students to basic ideas and concepts of development and gender and how we write about them in this book. We introduce the chapter with a discussion of the Millennium Development Goals, and then we outline our intellectual engagement with a critical feminist, materialist and decolonial approach to understanding intersectional gender and development. We conclude with a description of chapter summaries and a discussion of the major themes in the book.
