ABSTRACT

Geospatial analyses have been used effectively on data from diverse domains, including meteorological and crime data. There are sports development and marketing applications in which data can be analysed using such techniques. The core concepts of location and distance are covered. This chapter discusses the visual presentation of geospatial data and some common tools and techniques for geospatial analysis. The use of maps to present data is useful to decision making in areas including sports performance analysis. The use of layered approaches and mash-ups are also covered. The chapter presents various data representations, distinguishing between unprojected and projected forms and describing standard projections. The chapter also covers emerging research trends such as computational movement analysis and semantic trajectories.
