ABSTRACT

Mastery is perhaps "the most central of the beliefs about the self and society" that affect behavior and emotions. Research on mastery suggests that those "high in mastery are more likely to view themselves as being competent, to anticipate and avoid problems, possess skills that assist in resolving difficult issues, and are less likely to ruminate when problems do occur". Mastery is related to physical and mental health, academic performance, and coping with racism, stigma, anxiety, and criminal activity. Mastery is a major characteristic of modern society, where individualism, self-esteem, confidence, and independence are some of the keys to success and happiness. consider mastery as consisting of two major components: autonomy and life satisfaction. Autonomy refers to "an individual's sense of personal agency or the belief that one can control events or situations in one's life that can serve as a source of resilience when stressors are operative". It is found that age has a significant impact on life satisfaction.
