ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of the book. The book describes the contours of the Uyghur worldview, departing from the existing focus on minority exoticism, femaleness, and sensuality in the literature on minority representation in China. It analyzes an intimate zone reserved for spouses and children. The book examines a more private zone reserved for self-reflections on life and the Uyghur views on family and society. It focuses on why the Chinese state promotes the perception of minority primitiveness in China. The book expresses that many Uyghurs question the link between wealth and civilization. Chinese leaders are worried about the loss of morality and integrity in China because it can destabilize social order and create problems for governance. It draws narrative power from ethnographic research in describing Uyghur minds and relies on various concepts and analytic methods from mainstream social science research for data analyses.
