ABSTRACT

Erratic employment, long hours, financial uncertainty, changes in location, and a uniquely emotional and intimate work environment are inherent to our freelance artist lifestyle. This can be complicated for our friends, family, and significant others to navigate. Jealousy, frustration, and uncertainty can creep into even the most stable relationship. It’s well worth considering your career-versus-personal-life priorities in advance. Otherwise, the scales may tip too far in one direction.

In this chapter, the authors address such issues as romantic feelings for a castmate, jealous partners, unsupportive friends, balancing a career with family obligations, and fending off ignorant comments about your personal life.
