ABSTRACT

The emotional pain caused by the parents' negative feelings is a constant burden. Some parents also resume participating in pastime activities as well as taking on additional activities. To successfully complete the grieving process, the parents of a murdered child are going to need help for many years from everyone with whom they come in contact. While determining the most appropriate ways to help the parents, keep in mind that their futures hold agony and anguish, exhaustion and terror, uncertainty and resentment. It is extremely helpful for the parents to know that the people with whom they interact on a daily or weekly basis, such as their co-workers, their living children's teachers, cashiers at the grocery store, their hairstylist or barber, their mail carrier, and others, are not uncomfortable in their presence. The most difficult task facing the parents is disposing of their child's clothing and treasured belongings.
