ABSTRACT

What is readiness? In attempting to answer this question, many authorities have treated readiness as presence of the unique characteristic which gives promise of guaranteeing success in the classroom. Readiness is something children gain and learn for themselves. Developing Learning Readiness presents a full program which reaches back to the child’s infancy. As each new level of readiness is attained, the child is ready to move toward the development of more advanced performance. However, neither action alone nor interpretation alone can bring about ultimate readiness. Readiness involves more than receptivity for new or additional information. An infant spends most of his first eighteen months finding out how to move himself and how to refine these movements for greater fluidity of motion. His first challenge is to learn the Art of Movement. It is the first step in his development of the readiness for learning about the world outside of himself.
