ABSTRACT
The New Zealand economy is changing rapidly into a “knowledge economy,”
which requires a more highly skilled workforce. With the movement to higher
skills comes the need for accurate dissemination of complex and technical infor-
mation-the realm of the technical communicator. Additionally, New Zealand’s
relatively small economy makes the nation highly reliant on trade with other
countries, and such trade increasingly involves cross-cultural communication.
