ABSTRACT

Perfectionism is the key word that emerges as funeral directors, both male and female, describe their desire to demonstrate their expertise in their profession. Many times, when funerals are conducted in the funeral home or chapels instead of the churches, keeping the children who live in the funeral home ‘off limits’ is important. The children at one funeral home were becoming entrepreneurs at a young age. For a traditional service at the church, on the day of the funeral everybody goes to work early. The casket is put into the funeral coach. A last minute scrutiny is made to be sure that the memorial book, folders, and thank you notes are included, plus anything else that is to be given to the family following the service. Some families have special requests that have been made either by the deceased prior to his or her death or by a family member.
