ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses questions posed a century and a half ago by the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard. The questions are: Where am I? Who am I? How did I come to be here? What is this thing called the world? However, a lot of scientific information has been gathered in the last hundred and fifty years that permits us to look at Kierkegaard’s questions in a new light rather than strictly the traditional, religious one. Kierkegaard himself didn’t believe that humans had the capacity for finding out anything objective about life after death. Despite Kierkegaard’s convictions in this matter, his questions seem well suited to the investigation of our universe. According to Kierkegaard, questions as to whether or not existence after death takes place must be decided by each individual on the basis of his or her faith.
