ABSTRACT

A scene from a very bad movie, Full Metal Jacket, shows a group of U.S. Marines

looking down at the corpse of one of their squad mates. They all mutter things of

condolence to the corpse, except for one man who states flat out, “better you than

me.” It may sound trite, but to fully understand that line, and the grief that may

follow it, you had to be there.
