ABSTRACT

It is something we're going to see more of. According to The New York Times Magazine, March 9, 1997, greater longevity is one of the striking developments of the century-increasing more in the last 100 years than in the prior 5,000, since the Bronze Age. In 1900, life expectancy at birth in America was forty-nine. Today it is seventy-six, and people who have reached fifty-five can expect to live into their eighties. Add to that the fact that twice as many Americans were born in 1955 as in 1935 and it's easy to see that between now and the year 2030, the number of people over sixty-five will almost double. In short, more old people with more aging children.
