ABSTRACT
Defining research, like defining other terms in our field, isn’t easy. The defini-
tion is complicated by the evolution of quantitative and qualitative research
methods, and by differing views of how knowledge is created-positivism and
feminism for two. I define research as an effort to understand a topic by con-
ducting a systematic inquiry.
