ABSTRACT

The body of literature on knowledge utilization and dissemination is growing. Much less, however, exists in the areas of research utilization in applied areas as rural sociology, education and public health than is desirable. Relatively little other than occasional references to the subject appears in the health education literature about the application of social science theory to the issue of research methodology. In some respects, health educators have ignored the large body of program implementation, evaluation and applied research existing in developing countries. The possible variables governing utilization in social programs obviously could be innumerable. Even in the area of utilization of research with implications for health education programs, the variables affecting action are many. A major focus was on the linkage between researcher and practitioner and this subject received the most emphasis, stressing the need to train “linkers” but also to consider “linkage” as a process not just a person.
