ABSTRACT

Frank Manley Warren was one of the early cannery magnates who built his first cannery at Cathlamet, Washington, in 1871. In 1876 he established another cannery (35-MU-53) on the Columbia River at Warrendale, Oregon (Figures 38 and 39). Later still he developed another cannery in Alaska. Warren, an entrepreneur, capitalist, successful businessman, and inventor of a widely used retort for canning salmon, met an untimely end when the Titanic sank in 1912 (The Oregonwn, April 21, 1912).
