ABSTRACT

There is an old Japanese legend that reminds us about the power of love over death. Long ago, there lived an old man by the name of Takahama who lived alone in a small house behind a cemetery. Although never married and a bit eccentric, he was nevertheless thought to be a kind and harmless old man. In those days it was considered rather odd to live near a cemetery, and many people thought that perhaps this contributed to his isolation all those years. One summer he became quite ill and sent for his sister-in-law. She came as quickly as she could, bringing her teenage son with her for help.
