ABSTRACT

This chapter helps us to gain an understanding of production factors, production inefficiencies, management's role in improving production efficiency, process management, and integrating technology into landscape production systems. Productivity is a process that converts human and material resources into products or services. The efficiency with which this process is implemented determines a company's profitability. Management is responsible for the success of its production teams. It sets the parameters for the output and monitors the efficiency with which it is produced. Production standards for the company's operations are communicated and emphasized in the training of production personnel. A major portion of production management is associated with managing people. Managers need to be motivators and address the human factor rather than focus on the task-based factors. Total Quality Management (TQM) is an integrative system that is structured to provide improvement within the business environment in response to internal and external needs.
