ABSTRACT

This chapter helps us to gain an understanding of the ramifications of a recessionary economy, impacts on landscape company divisions, how to compete in the current business environment, and marketing strategies. It addresses the challenges faced by the landscape industry during a recessionary economy. Under economic constraints, sustaining a business requires a multifaceted strategy. The key to success is survival, which means "reaching a sustainable balance between revenue and expenses." The marketing strategies listed are intended to get companies greater exposure in their existing market through community involvement, with a targeted sales approach directed towards expanding market shares and branding to establish a greater identity. Landscape companies are faced with greater competition in the market and clients demanding lower prices for their services. The challenge facing the industry is how to deliver the same quality services at a lower price while maintaining margins. Financial sustainability is jeopardized as reduced revenue is insufficient for meeting existing overhead expenses.
