ABSTRACT

This chapter forms a discussion of the composition experiences of three contemporary evangelical Christian songwriters residing in coastal areas of North-East Scotland and in the Orkney Islands, all of which correspond closely to Titon’s concept of Folk Christian song acquisition. The singers are Annita McDonnell from Fraserburgh, Monica Jack from Gardenstown and Michael Harcus from the island of Westray, one of the Orkney Islands. Each person describes memories of song acquisition which he or she attributes to spiritual experience through time spent in God’s presence.
