ABSTRACT

A director should make it clear that he is very much aware of how valuable the executive's time is, and how grateful the director is to be given some of that time. Then, using the same techniques as with employees—just a simple conversation—and shooting ample coverage is the way to conduct the interview. Working with actors and employees is one of the most challenging parts of a producer's or director's job. The time constraints and intrinsic pressures of production work require a steady, confident hand, and sensitivities not only to the feelings of actors and employees on the set, but also the feelings of clients and audience members who will watch the performances and hopefully benefit from its presentation. Ideally, the director will give the actor a comfortable feel for the scene at hand, a sense of what he feels the scene should accomplish and let the actor contribute their part in the performance.
