ABSTRACT

What Marie-Louise Von Franz does not say is that C. G. Jung changed the course of her life profoundly and to his own ends. She was born in 1915, the daughter of an Austrian nobleman who came to Zurich three years later to live and raise his family. Sometime later, von Franz was having some difficulties psychologically and asked Jung if she could go into analysis with him, though she could not really afford it. Ultimately it was von Franz whom Jung asked to complete the work his wife had started on the Grail. Von Franz admitted to being concerned to take on someone else’s “child.” The book was published in 1980 as The Grail Legend by Emma Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz. Ambivalent feelings seemed to flourish around von Franz, as they did about many of the Jungian circle. Everyone agrees on one thing about von Franz – her brilliance.
