ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an introduction to the book and describes its purpose and organization. The purpose of the book is to examine the foundations of online education, focusing on its historical, theoretical, and pedagogical bases as well as its practical applications in our schools and colleges. These foundations are critical to understanding online education’s present proliferation as well as speculating on its future.
