ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the design of instruction for online education. It refers back to some of the ideas and material presented in Chapter Three on learning theory. This chapter takes theory and applies it to the real world of instructional design as appropriate for online education. The generic ADDIE Model (analysis, design, develop, implement, evaluate) originally developed in the 1970s is used as a design framework. The principles outlined in this chapter can refer to entire academic programs, courses, or course modules. The chapter concludes with scripts for several different models of online education courses including an asynchronous learning class, an interactive video session, and a blended learning class.
