ABSTRACT

This chapter examines academic, administrative, and student support services for online education. It expands on the ideas and material presented in Chapter Five on planning for online education and emphasizes that implementation of online education starts with good leadership. A model for developing the proper infrastructure is also provided and serves as a thread for the remainder of the chapter. Critical components of this model include:

Management information system;

Course/learning management system;

User portal;

Library and digital resources;

Academic, administrative and student services.

The chapter also looks at several policy issues related to online learning and specifically at issues related to students with disabilities.
