ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasizes the connection between informational interviewing and environmental scanning as an effective way to make decisions about how to prepare a professional portfolio for job-hunting. One of the simplest and most effective ways to do job-hunting is through a "strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats" (SWOT) analysis and is used as a management and career development tool for years. SWOT starts with a full and frank examination of personal strengths and weaknesses. Strengths and weaknesses go along the top row of the matrix, while the bottom row contains the opportunities and threats present in external environment. Job-hunting generally takes time for most people. It's important to manage in this regard, to avoid becoming discouraged. The chapter describes fieldwork – is a process of constant mental adjustment about the successful environment. Every job application is an opportunity to improve and refine professional portfolio; every rejection letter offers at least the possibility of constructive feedback.
