ABSTRACT
The approval of the International Religious Freedom Act by the US Congress was a key moment in the development of policies and tools for the promotion and protection of religious freedom globally. This chapter analyzes the role of the Department of State, the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, and the President of the United States in the monitoring of religious freedom and the eventual enforcement of sanctions against violations. Recent developments approved by the Obama administration are also analyzed.
