ABSTRACT

The Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is comprised of eight important sections such as present level of performance, measurable annual goals, progress monitoring, specially designed instruction, least restrictive environment, testing adaptations, amount and frequency of service and transition planning. Each section is designed to identify and highlight different aspects of this individualized plan for all members of the team in order to provide clear, concise information on how the team wrap educational services around the needs of the student. In this chapter author reflects on her own educational experiences and how they have impacted her perception of learning and influenced the way she has developed her instructional methods. Fast-forward to public education, and you see how teaching and learning have evolved to meet the needs of the individual learner. Teachers in the 21st-century classroom are working harder than ever to measure student growth, plan prescriptive lessons, and collaborate with other colleagues to promote success, both inside and outside the classroom.
