ABSTRACT

Kristen Hare is a media reporter for the Poynter Institute. Before taking on the Meta job of covering the industry she's part of, Hare spent five years reporting on race, immigration, aging and the census for the St. Louis Beacon and five years as a Sunday features writer for the St. Joseph News-Press. Hare graduated from the University of Missouri's School of Journalism in 2000, and then spent two years in Guyana with the Peace Corps. Hare, who now lives outside Tampa with her family, is also the author of the book "100 Things to do in Tampa Bay Before You Die". Hare first considered becoming a journalist because my dad told me it was a way to be a writer and pay the bills. Hare learned to become a journalist because of a high school journalism teacher whose lessons on free speech and democracy crept into my brain and put down roots.
