ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a key paradigm shift for the Learner-Active, Technology-Infused Classroom: moving the teacher from being disseminator of information to the architect of a powerful learning environment that gives students responsibility for learning. The home group addresses the structures of taking responsibility for learning. Working as part of a home group provides both comfort and challenges. The Authentic Learning Unit launch and problem-based task introduction should only take about ten minutes. The activity list should be organized around the content presented in the analytic rubric. Analytic rubrics designed to drive instruction offer students a clear path to success, introducing additional criteria in each column. The resource area gives students responsibility for their own learning. One teacher pointed out that homework completion increased once she placed the assignments in the resource area. The learning dashboard is a spreadsheet that each student uses to track individual progress.
