ABSTRACT

Students should begin to synthesize the notes and tabled materials into a new whole, the sum of which will become their literature review. The chapter helps to develop a detailed writing outline, which can save Students valuable time and effort as they continue with the writing task. Guidelines are: consider purpose and voice before beginning to write; consider how to reassemble notes; create a topic outline that traces argument and reorganize notes according to the path of argument. The Guidelines also include: within each topic heading, note differences among studies; plan to briefly describe relevant theories; plan to discuss how individual studies relate to and advance theory and plan to summarize periodically and again near the end of the review. The Guidelines further include: plan to present conclusions and implications; plan to suggest specific directions for future research near the end of the review and flesh out Students outline with details from their analysis.
