ABSTRACT
The need to love is foundational to human life. The call to love is given to all
humankind. Those things that preclude it-whether that love is to be directed
toward God or others-are life destroying. The Christian message is grounded
in the message brought by Jesus: “I came that they may have life, and have it
abundantly” (John 10:10, New Revised Standard Version).
