ABSTRACT

Chances are you will see inappropriate behavior. Typically, because employees know they’re being monitored, they are careful not to put inappropriate content in e-mail, social media, or on your social software platform. Occasionally, however, employee-generated content crosses a perceived line, and people get upset. Most people’s first reaction is to come down hard on the o€ending individual, but that reaction can stifle future discussions, especially if the perceived o€ense was taken out of context. The best response is to politely and privately ask the o€ender to clarify the information or remove it. That way, employees realize it’s okay to push the envelope and that the worst that will happen is a short chat from a manager.
