ABSTRACT
As a college speaker, I’ve learned that nearly all the guys I speak to have been viewing porn with some regularity since they were in middle school. In fact, it is so rare to find one who hasn’t that those few fellas who don’t look at porn gain underground fame among their guy friends. When I speak to all-male groups, some of the young men will occasionally brag about the one guy in the room who masturbates without porn. The guy is usually pretty open because he is already accustomed to being a human study of his male peers and relishes his countercultural role. In interviews with each of these guys, I usually learn that he is from a very rural part of the country where he had dial-up Internet until he was well into high school, and streaming issues kept him from developing the habit of looking at Internet porn. Once in a while I meet guys who just chose to not start looking at porn.
