ABSTRACT

When I think of creativity, I’m reminded of a story I heard from one of my favorite professors at Wharton, Dr. Ian MacMillan, or “Mac,” as he preferred to be called. When Mac was a young entrepreneur, he started a travel agency that focused on highly specialized tours for groups seeking unique experiences. Mac took the advice of his buddies and invested some of the proceeds in Canadian timber land. When Mac nally went to survey the land, he found much of what he had purchased to be beautiful lakes. Now, beautiful lakes are terric to look at but completely unproductive if you’re looking to harvest timber.
