ABSTRACT

We are at a special time in the evolution of work. Technological advances and shifting generational expectations have created a more dynamic workforce. People will be working longer and changing jobs more than in previous generations. 1 Gone are the days of the “company man,” a professional committed to spending the entirety of his professional existence advancing in the ranks of one corporation. People who switched jobs, changed industries, or started companies were once viewed as rebels. This is no longer the case. That shift in attitude is even refl ected in our modern-day professional heroes: we have moved from idolizing the Jack Welches of the world to lionizing the Mark Zuckerbergs.
