ABSTRACT

You are thinking of starting your own company. How much money do you need to get underway? As the Kauffman Foundation, the world’s largest foundation devoted to entrepreneurship, notes, “the answer, of course, depends on what kind of company you are starting. If someone is starting a pharmaceutical company to test a new drug, or a FedEx-like gigantic venture, he or she likely will require millions of dollars to get started. If a writer is starting a new blog service, or a developer is launching a new app, the cost is almost zero, except his or her living expenses.”1
