As digital technologies advance, they sense the world around us in ever finer detail. Tiny sensors become part of products, and the data they generate allows us to see new patterns, distinguish variations, and discover new realities. Connecting things to the Internet allows us to control their operation remotely and manage the everyday scenarios they are part of with far greater precision. Applying these new function and service possibilities to existing products enables us to create far superior digital versions. Using this approach, we can remaster and upgrade any product. New business models based on these enhanced capabilities will emerge, and the companies that apply them will become the new masters of their industries.
