ABSTRACT

In its most powerful form the cloud is a new context for business and society. The cloud is at the same time the enabler of terrorism and its antidote. It is the underlying driver of the destabilizing shift in power from the industrialized world to the developing world and also the mechanism by which the entire world will develop a new equilibrium over the next hundred years. In fact, the cloud isn’t about any one technology. E-mail, instant messaging, social networking, cloud computing, and crowdsourcing are all small pieces of the cloud. They may make it easier to define how parts of the cloud work, but they don’t define how it behaves. Nor do they get to the heart of how we will behave, and it’s the behavior of this new world order that we most need to understand.
