ABSTRACT

I would wager that every CIO of every company faces some form of the Futurist versus Archivist paradox, and Tom Murphy, formerly CIO of $80 billion pharmaceutical company AmerisourceBergen, is one of them. “This is probably one of the core paradoxes for the CIO,” says Murphy. “Whether it’s about consumer technologies or ERP or e-mail, legacy begins the day you put something in. We have always had to deal with it.”
