ABSTRACT

It is a run-of-the-mill Friday night. After a long and stressful week filled with work deadlines, meetings, multiple trips to the grocery store, and attendance at various kids’ activities, I look forward to a nice, relaxing evening at home. I’m ready to put an end to the madness of the workweek and recharge the old batteries by being with the people I love most, in the familial space where I unfailingly find solace. I envision snuggling up on the couch with my children, a glass of wine in one hand and a slice of pizza in the other-mom and kids enjoying a fantastic movie marathon and laughing together as a family. Ahhh . . . so nice and so needed. But wait. This is too good to be true. What is wrong with this picture? Oh, I know. My Friday night fantasy did not factor in one important and inevitable detail: my teens have their own plans.
