ABSTRACT

This chapter explores why it is important to adopt an impact mindset, a way of thinking about our communication practices. It enables us to recognize how we approach communication interactions to achieve desired results, as well as reframe how we think about common communication concerns and beliefs that may get in our way of becoming the most strategic communicators we can be. The chapter considers each of these concerns and beliefs that make strategic communication harder than it need be. It reframes each one, giving a more helpful way of understanding it. The chapter reorients the approach to a particular aspect of communicating purposefully, specifying actions to maximize impact. It illustrates how individuals used the IMPACT Paradigm to get results at work. The chapter also explores how reframing each concern, reorienting our approach, and adopting the impact mindset increase our communication effectiveness.
