ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on six ways to design and execute effective Intending, Messaging, Presence, Attending, Connecting, and Together (IMPACT) practice. These practice approaches are: Isolate a Skill; Combine Skills; Self-Assess; Self-Correct; Integrate Feedback; Persist and Progress. The chapter explores the benefits of engaging in IMPACT practice to improve the communication effectiveness. Attending and connecting are two essential parts of the IMPACT Paradigm because they ensure mutual engagement, a necessary aspect of communicating with impact to achieve desired outcomes. There are opportunities to integrate communication skills in everyday situations. An excellent way to get better at communicating effectively with maximum impact is to self-correct in real time. After engaging in any communication, whether it's a one-to-one, small group or large group interaction, self-assess. Invest time in self-assessing what went well and where there is room for improvement to ensure that the practice is efficient and transferable to situations at work.
