ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book concerns a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of professional interviewing in terms of: offering a meaningful applied theoretical model upon which to base the study of the interview. It provides an insight into many of the nuances of the activity and also examines the behaviour of interviewers and the ways in which this can influence interviewees. The book attempts to contribute an increased social awareness and professional competence on the part of interviewers. It concerns the area of perception and focuses upon the nature of goals. The book examines interview stages and strategies and also analyses the core interpersonal skills necessary for effective interviewing. It devotes to the study of the client's perspectives within the interview process. The book also presents a number of issues pertaining to the professional practice of interviewing such as confidentiality, record keeping and referral.
