ABSTRACT

Unemployment, disaffected youth, populism, nationalism, "ethnic cleansing" in various locations – these are some of the similarities that exist between the way people think and act today and the way they thought and acted more than 70 years ago. IFIP is a global non-governmental organization for researchers and professionals working in the field of information and communications technology (ICT). With the advent of ICT, the conventional wisdom has been that technology will unite us. The ultimate goal is to build a Good Information and Communication Society. In principle, this should be easy – since all people want to live a peaceful life. Positive actions to build peace and to avoid war have to be taken by each and every one of us. Peace builds inside each of us as individuals. In contemporary society, particularly in developed countries but also increasingly in emerging economies, critical infrastructures based on ICT can be conceived as fundamental to the capacity to live in peace and prosperity.
