ABSTRACT

This chapter, Chapter 4, presents an overview of whistleblowing around the world. It offers observations from published literature that describe the public support, or lack thereof, of whistleblowing in different countries, and it explores laws enacted to protect whistleblowers. It covers whistleblowing research in the government, or public, sector and whistleblowing research in the private sector in those countries that have conducted such research. No published document can address all legislation and research concerning whistleblowing because the interest in whistleblowing is high and new research is published daily. However, this study offers a glimpse into what has been done globally in the areas of whistleblowing, whistleblower protections, and research on whistleblowing in the public and private sectors.
