ABSTRACT

On the surface, they’re very different. Our Michigan Ave (Figure 1) is a community

development Web site, designed to encourage discussion around urban planning for

a major commercial corridor. It showcases photos, improvement ideas, and points

of interest. Speech Made Visible (Figure 2) is a simpler site that invites visitors to

upload an audio recording of speech and a transcript, and creates a styled version

of the transcript that indicates pitch, speed, and volume with the size, color, and

placement of the text. Yet what interests us most about these projects, which we

both worked on extensively, is the common method that we used to build them:

Agile Development.
